Birgunj (Parsa), April 30: The revenue collection in different customs offices including the Birgunj Customs Office has been affected due to poor compliance by importers and exporters in clearing the goods.

The importers and exporters have not participated in the goods clearance processes for the past two days, as the Birgunj Customs Office announced the implementation of the maximum retail price (MRP) of exportable and importable goods.

The customs clearance was stalled in Birgunj customs point after non-compliance by the importers, as they did not fill declaration forms for the imported goods.

Likewise, revenue collection was affected at the customs point.

Chief of the Birgunj Customs Office, Krishna Prasad Mainali, said that the job of goods clearance is stalled as the importers and exporters have not submitted the declaration forms of the imported and exported goods.

Recently, the government decided to mandatorily implement MRP in customs points for all sorts of goods.

However, there is no issue of customs clearance for petroleum products, fruits and vegetables, and industrial raw materials. For these goods, Rs 310 million in revenue was collected in Birgunj.

The Birgunj Customs Office generally collects Rs 500 million to 600 million on a daily basis.

However, Chairman of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hari Prasad Gautam argued that they did not participate in the customs clearance processes as the step to implement MRP in customs point was impractical.(RSS)
